Today we found out Hunter is real sick. Turns out he has a tumor in his heart.

Instead of being resentful about it, we thought it best to now show him, within the next few days, weeks and hopefully months, the joy and love that he brought us.

We have prayed and at this point, that is about all we can do.

We will treat every day from here on out as a present and we will see if we can put up a photo for the day.

Day 1: Last night was pretty rough. We had brought him to the vets and he was real tired, did not want to eat, and what he did he was throwing up. All symptoms from the tumor. We had the option to let him go, but we felt he still had some fight in him and that he still had a few more good days left.

Turns out after a long night he must have reabsorbed the blood from the tumor. He was back to his "old self", well sort of.

Here Cael and Coy show that with the right motivation, you can get through a bad day.

Day 2: Today was another good day. I know we said we would do a picture a day but as soon as Ella finished her photo with Hunter (the man who is not a fan of the camera) another crazy man (who is a fan of the camera) had to get in his photo-opportunity. Not sure if Hunter was really thrilled with sharing this pose with Zeke, but what is he going to say...

Day 3: Another day to sit back and reminisce. Who could have thought a pizza could bring someone into your family?

That is exactly what happened. This lovely lady went to pick up a large pizza one evening. Since it was not ready when she showed, she happened to spend that time looking in a pet store next door. And the rest we say is... history.

Nine years later, look at that face, how could anyone say no?

Day 4: Friday night, you would think the guy could catch a break given the circumstances and get a night off.

Too bad Hunter didn't ask enough questions because this was not what he probably had in mind when he agreed to a night with the "boys."

Day 5: Whoever said things would be smooth sailing. Even the best of them get sick. When things don't go right, sometimes you need to find someone else who is in a worse situation and try to cheer them up.

And you know what, sometimes your stomach ache just does not seem that bad anymore.

Day 6: Come on, it is Sunday. Everyone needs a day off.

We are just happy and thankful, and for us, for answered prayer, that we have had Hunter for another week.

Day 7: Every day you just have to keep on keeping on.

Here is Hunter welcoming Ashlyn and Ty back home after a long day at school.

Day 8: Just shows you the loyalty when he is willing to sit down in the evening and watch your favorite TV show with you.

And I guess it does help when you are sharing your popcorn with him.

Day 10: Seriously, I am really bored... when can I go outside and play.

Day 11: The highs and lows of life. One day you feel like you are in the outhouse, hanging out in the dog pen...

Day 12: ... and the next day you are in the penthouse. You are being invited to a birthday party where you get the royal treatment. Pizza, chicken wings, snacks, cake and ice cream - there is nothing you cannot get.

Day 14: Not many things can come between a game of catch with your dog.

Well Cael has just proved that your little brother could.

Days 15-21: Thanks for all your prayers for Hunter thus far.

It has been over three weeks since Hunters Dr Appointment and he still is going great. He has yet to have another episode.

This week Ashlyn and Ty had the week off from school for Spring Break and we had some great weather the whole week... 70's-80's. So Hunter and Zeke were able to spend quite a bit of time outside just hanging out with everyone in the neighborhood while working on their all important tan.

Day 29: Even when he is having a bad day, his "enthusiasm" for the camera has not changed. Well is it the fact that he is getting his photo taken, or the feeling that he is the recipient of a joke of someone imitating him.

See for yourself

Looks like he is going through his first episode since the doctors appointment. Thank you for those who have been praying for Hunter. Even though his heart has not been healed we would still covet your prayers for Hunter.

Day 34: Sunday night, and well past his bedtime at 11pm, but you can't pull this kid away from hanging out downstairs.

Day 35: Well we knew this day would eventually come and with a heavy heart, we want to let you know that your prayers were appreciated, but this afternoon Hunter passed.

We will really miss him but we are thankful we were given another month with him.

Although our ultimate prayer of a healing was not answered, we thank the Lord that the rest of our requests were answered. That Hunter was home, not alone and went on his own time.

He was able to have a nice home cooked breakfast, see everyone off this morning, hang outside with Zeke and enjoy a sunny warm morning and even go for a car ride.

We hope to see you again, Sir Hunter of King Forest. 7/6/1998- 5/5/2008

What is the importance of a dog in your life?

A kind note of encouragement that was passed on to us.

Actually, I believe that we can learn a lot about the Lord through the lives of our animals.

They have that unconditional love and they are always glad to see us and hear from us. They thrive on our companionship- that is really all they want is a loving relationship with us.

They are obedient- as we ought to be. They come on this earth and do their job that only our Father could orchestrate and then they leave all of these wonderful memories.

We can only hope that we take as good care of them in the same way that they take care of us.
