We got a special call earlier in the week from Uncle Elliott to see if we wanted to take part in a barbeque competition Memorial Day weekend at the RocCity Rib Fest (roccityribfest.com). Without hesitation we said yes. We love hanging out with team Buckner Brothers and to get an opportunity to enter a kids challenge under their supervision was a no brainer! Our team name would not be Buckner Brothers but rather Buckner Brothers 2.0.
There was a twist that we were not ready for, and it was that Oliver and Abby would be unable to come up with Uncle Elliott, and that meant Buckner Brothers 2.0 would be minus 2.
So now that we are all on board, here is Cael and Coy with Buckner Brothers teammate, Matt.
Our task is to create six burger/bacon themed sliders for the competition. We are expected to do everything, except for any task that involves using a knife or cooking on the grills. For those parts, we are allowed to use a grown-up.
To get started, Matt and the twins, prepared the box that we will be using to present to the judges.

Onion Seasoning
Above is Brian and Ella creating and mixing the seasoning for the onions.
Here is Ella with Uncle Elliott's brother, Brian. Brian helped Ella cut up the onions, but it is Ella's job to season the onions that will eventually be deep fried.
While the onions are being prepped, it only made sense to have Cael and Coy help create the batter for the eventual deep fried onions.

Since we only had 90 minutes from start to finish, until we had to turn in our final product, we broke up into sub teams. Here is Ashlyn and Ty with Uncle Elliott working on the burgers.
First Check-in Interview with Ashlyn and Ty
Everyone is working hard, so we asked for 30 seconds to get an update and a quick pulse of the team from Ashlyn and Ty.
Before we can cook up the burgers, we had to get our bacon cooked up. After all it is a barbeque competition and this was our pork tie-in.

The Awards
It all comes down to this moment. Let's see how Buckner Brothers 2.0 does in their first ever competition against 24 other teams.
Thank you Uncle Elliott and Brian for giving us this opportunity to join your team. We missed not having out two teammates from Richmond, VA. It was not the same without them, but we know they were pulling and rooting for us.
And another special thank you goes out to the greater Buckner Brothers team for helping us and giving us pointers throughout the competition.
